Red boxes indicate some of the more popular marks.

Portsmouth, Langstone and Chichester Harbours offer countless marks and opportunities to catch fish in particular  Flounder, Silver Eels, Bass, Mullet and Plaice. The shallow mud flats can only be fished for a few hours around high-tide, the channels between them a bit longer.

If you've fished in the harbours lately, let me know how it went.

PORTSMOUTH HARBOUR : Porchester and Fareham Creeks are good for Flounders, Hilsea and Ports Creeks for Bass and Flounders from the waterside walls, Hardway for Pollack and shoal Bass on Rag worm baited floats. Flounder are plentiful in the channels between the mudflats, being in prime condition during late Autumn and Winter. Crabs quickly striping baits is a real problem See below for the latest reports

04/06/07 : John caught 6 large Eels and 6 Bass to 4lb at night using Rag worm for bait, he says "Fished the incoming tide, as the water covered the mud the fish really came on the feed, last and biggest Bass came one hour before high, when I went home."

04/05/07 : 'Cakey and Smiffy' caught 4 Bass to 5lb 2oz during the day using Rag worm and Squid for bait, they say "'The others were 2 at 2lb and one at 3lb, high tide was at 1.00pm, fished it in from 8.30am 'til high tide, all fish caught between 9.30 and 11.00am."

23/09/06 : Barry Street caught a 5lb 3oz Bass at night using fish head and guts for bait.

18/09/06 : Barry Street caught a 13lb Conger Eel at night using Mackerel for bait, he says "Very unusual".

15/01/06 : Wing Co. and Crew caught nothing during the day in Fareham Creek using Rag worm and frozen Lugworm for bait, they say " Wing Co. and The Tulip Man arrived at 09:00. High tide at about 11:45. Weather was cloudy and mostly windy and quite cold. There was a fishing club having a competition but just like us they all blanked as far as we know. Unless someone can tell me where to fish for Dabs, I will try the area near 'Explosion' again for Flounder."

LANGSTONE HARBOUR : Budd's Wall to the west of Hayling Bridge is excellent for Bass, Flounders and Silver Eels. See below for the latest reports.

08/05/08 : Justin caught a Garfish during the day using Feathers for bait, he says "Fished by the 'Bunny Pipe' at low tide, strong easterly wind with too much weed, had ten casts fishing for mackerel caught a nice size garfish, also spotted a couple of seals rising."

25/11/07 : Gary (Pinky) and Brad didn't catch anything during the day using Rag worm for bait, they say "Fished the top of Eastern Road by the bridge looking for my first flounder of the season. Had quite a few little bites but nothing would hook. Still a pleasant day but will have to try Pompey harbour next time."

06/07/07 : Scattsmush caught a shoal Bass in the evening using Rag worm for bait, he says "Got down there just after high tide, caught the Bass on my first cast, lovely evening after all the rain."

16/06/07 : Kev caught a 1 3/4lb Wrasse during the day using Rag worm for bait, his father says "Fished by the ferry terminal at low tide (6.30pm) until about 9.30pm with my kids. Eldest son caught the Wrasse at about 9pm (his first fish)."

03/07/06 : Simon and Geoff caught a 2 1/2lb Bass during the day near Hayling Bridge using Rag worm for bait, they say "Fished at low tide in and just as the tide turned Geoff caught the nice Bass. The Bass in the harbours are feeding heavily on crabs but still accept BIG Rag worm baits!"

CHICHESTER HARBOUR : Said to contain around 15 square miles of water when the tide's in providing good Flounder fishing from many of the channels using either a float or baited spoon, King Ragworm being the killer bait. Spots worth a try are Dell Quay, Birdham, Itchenor Reach and the Thorney Island channel, there is abundant Mullet at all these marks in the summer months but they are very difficult to catch. See below for the latest reports.

08/06/08 : John (thermosoflask) caught school Bass during the day using Rag worm for bait, he says "Hi went to Bosham at low water to get some cockles took a small telescopic rod as well spent an enjoyable couple of hrs across low water fishing the creek with a bubble float and rag on size 6 hook caught well over 40 small bass from 4 inches to 12 inches long, most were around 6-8 inches. There were a couple big ones swimming around, easily 4lb but the small ones always beat them to the bait, masses of them no wonder the flounder fishing has died a death .

16-17/08/05 : Richard caught a 4lb Bass, small Bream and Mackerel during the day from the entrance to Chichester Harbour using Squid for bait, he says " The channel must be fished at low water + 2hours or High water -/+ 1 hour any other time and the current is too fast. At the time I was trying to catch a reasonable size Bream or two for me supper using No 1 hooks but strong ones just in case a Bass turned up, which he did! By the way, folk may be interested to hear that if you fish the channel close to the marina close to high water in the evening, a decent Bass is almost guaranteed according to local info, haven't tried it yet myself though."

There is a ban on taking Bass from boats in Chichester, Langstone and Portsmouth harbours between May 1st- 31st October.
